CAUSE PUFFY EYES WHEN I WAKE UP

When you wake up in the morning sometimes a person has swollen eyes that made him insecure. Exactly what causes the eyes to be swollen in the morning ..??? The swollen eye is usually only discovered when someone waking. This incident is a common occurrence and can be caused by various factors. Here are some things that could be the cause, as quoted from the LIVESTRONG and Mayoclinic, Saturday (07/30/2011), namely:

Sleeping position
Sleeping with your head elevated can not make the fluid accumulates below the eyes. Conversely, if the head is supported somewhat by placing a pillow under the head will allow the force of gravity to draw liquids out from under the eyes naturally.

How long to sleep
Getting enough sleep not only helps the body function properly, but also affects the level of inflammation in the body. If you are not getting enough sleep, the blood vessels under the eyes will dilate and closer to the surface so it looks more swollen.

Food and beverages are consumed before bed
If you eat a diet rich in sodium or drinking excess alcohol then it will likely wake up with puffy eyes. This is because food is too salty or high sodium causes the body to retain water so that the trigger swollen eyes.

Meanwhile alcoholic beverages act as a trigger dehydration so make the skin under the eyes feel thinner. This causes fluid to accumulate more visible and appear more swollen.
Even so there are some things you can do as a routine to reduce puffy eyes effectively, namely:
1. Cold compresses to the eye area as a whole for a few minutes after waking. To compress the eye could use slices of cucumber, cloth, cotton or a wet tea bag that serves constrict blood vessels.

2. Give a gentle pressure on the bone around the eye as when compressed, this condition will encourage circulation and help reduce excess fluid.

3. If puffy eyes caused by eating salty foods at night, then drink water when you wake up can help reduce puffy eyes.

4. Try getting enough sleep and use pillows to help prop up the head so as to prevent accumulation of fluid around the eye during sleep.

5. If the eyes are swollen due to allergy to something, then identify the allergens. Allergies can be caused by soaps, cosmetics or certain medications.

Charge your Cell Phone – With Sound

It happened again, I was 50 miles from home with a million things that needed to be done, when I got a flat tire, and my cell phone was dead. I didn’t have a charger, I was in the middle of nowhere, and I had to get to a dentist appointment AND I pick my daughter up at school. Why is it the phone never goes dead while I’m texting nonsense to my best friend in Minnesota?
Someday, days like today could be a distant memory, as electrical engineers in South Korea are currently working on a system that can convert everyday sound into energy, so imagine if you will, a world where cell phones can recharge themselves as people speak into them. The technology would also be able to harness background noise and music, to charge phones while they’re not being used.
The actual process being used in order to convert sound into energy seems simple enough. According to a recent article in the Telegraph, ”The technology uses tiny strands of zinc oxide sandwiched between two electrodes. A sound absorbing pad on top vibrates when sound waves hit it, causing the tiny zinc oxide wires to compress and release. This movement generates an electrical current that can then be used to charge a battery.”
A prototype of this technology was able to convert sound of around 100 decibels – which is the equivalent of noisy traffic – to generate 50 millivolts of electricity. “This is not enough to charge a phone properly, but Dr Kim and his colleagues hope that by altering the material the wires are made from, they will be able to produce more energy at lower sounds levels.
Now if the music on my iPod could just run the vacuum cleaner and the vacuum noise could keep the iPod charged… that would be living!

How to Extend the Life of Your Printer

A high-performance laser printer nowadays can be $600. But before you can say "highway robbery", printers are actually worth their costs considering their lifespan. That is of course, if you’re taking good-care of your device. Whatever type of printer you are using, here are a few tips to make you them live longer.

Shut Your Printer Down Properly
When you’re not using your printer, turn it off. It prevents ink from drying and helps in keeping your printer functioning at its best. Do not just pull the plug; use the printer’s power button. Once you have already turned it off, unplug your printer if necessary. Avoid turning it off when in the middle of something.

Do not use cheap ink cartridges or toners
We usually think that compatible means the same as the original thing. Compatible parts may perform like originals, but they do not do so for a long time. This is you should never use compatible or refilled ink and toner cartridges. The worse thing is it may affect your printer’s performance.
See, it has it has something to do with how manufacturers make their cartridges. First, they buy empty cartridges from end users. Then, they strip these cartridges, clean them and finally reassemble them. In this scenario, you should be most concerned about the toner. The toner drum can only last for a set period of time. No amount of cleaning can change that.

Do not force jammed paper out
In case of a paper jam, do not force the paper out. Forcing paper out can damage the printer. Plus, the paper can tear can leave bit of paper stuck inside. These can cause problems later on. There is a better way to get paper out easily. Printers usually have a hatch at the back that can easily be removed. There, you can access the paper wheels and see the jammed paper. Then, you can get the paper out smoothly, without having to pull and tear.

Cartridge Lifespan
It all depends on frequency and quantity. Frequent and heavy users might need to replace cartridges every few months. Light users may need to replace cartridges only about 2-3 times a year (ink dries out if not used for more than a year). For more complete answers, talk to the manufacturers. For instance, they can tell you that certain printers can print 350 pages at 5% percent coverage or 5% surface area inked on each page.
Toner cartridges vary in lifespan. The less expensive ones go for $100. These printers can print 2,500 to 5,000 pages. The more expensive printers can print tens of thousands of pages. The most expensive types can even yield hundreds of thousands of pages.

Lastly
Your printer’s lifespan depends greatly on the sturdiness of the machine, frequency of use and maintenance. Some printers last longer than some. To make sure that your printer will last, use it according to its (monthly) duty cycle. The monthly duty cycle tells you the maximum number of pages your printer is designed to produce.
A good idea is to buy a printer that has a duty cycle three times your estimated volume. Take good care of your printer so that it can perform at its best and last for a long time.

Understanding Laptop Size and Weight

Laptops have become quite a common gadget to have nowadays. All the cool people seem to travel and go out with their laptops always on hand. If you are planning to buy a laptop of your own, then you should know that there are different types of laptops now available in different sizes and weights.
Here is a guide that will help you understand laptop size and weight specifications and help you if ever you plan to buy one.

Size Basics
When talking about laptop size, it usually refers to the external physical dimensions. This usually refers only to the laptop itself and not the other accessories that come with it but may also be required when being used.
When choosing laptop sizes, the required accessories of the laptop should also be taken into consideration aside from its physical dimensions. Laptops are designed to be portable, added accessories may lessen its portability.

Weight Basics
When the laptop size may determine its level of portability, it should not be the only thing to be considered. The weight of the laptop should also be made part of the decision making when choosing a ideal laptop. Since laptops were designed to be carried around, weight becomes an important issue especially if the laptop is a requirement for daily travel.
Weight specifications of laptops can be tricky from one manufacturer to another. Some laptops have weight specifications that include only its installed batteries. Many laptop manufacturers fail to mention the weight of the laptop power adapters which can easily add up from one to three pounds to a laptops total weight.
When buying a laptop, try to inquire about the traveling weight of a certain model. This would usually include all the other accessories needed by the laptop for portable use. This would provide you with a more accurate assessment of its actual weight.

Laptop Types
Most portable laptops today have been categorized according to their weight and size. Since many laptop buyers look into physical specifications first and foremost when buying one, laptop types have been essentially categorized as the following:
Luggable- laptops with sizes that ranges greater than 18 inches in length, 13 inches wide and 1.5 inches thick. Luggable weigh more than 12 lbs on average.
Desktop Replacement Laptops- these are laptops that range in size greater than 15 inches long, 11 inches wide and 1.5 inches thick. These types of laptops also weight greater than 7 lbs.
Thin and Light Laptops- these are laptops that range from 11-14 inches long, less than 11 inches wide and from1-1.6 inches thick. These laptops also average from 5 to 7 lbs in weight.
Ultraportable Laptops- these laptops average 9 to 11 inches long, 8 to 10 inches wide and about 1.3 inches thick. Ultraportable weigh from 2 to 4 lbs on average.
Subnotebooks- the smallest laptop category, subnotebooks average less than 9 inches in length, 7 inches wide and 1.3 inches thick. Subnotebooks also average less than 2.5 lbs in weight.

How to Clean Your Laptop

Providing a certain amount of care for your gadgets and devices such as your laptop, even if not as often as possible, may help it run faster and look presentable.
As the laptop does not come dust-, debris-, dirt-, or even bug-proof, you may as well do some cleaning measures yourself. Most often than not, the underlying problem of a laptop not operating efficiently is that it is dirty and unkempt. Below are ways on how you can clean your laptop:
  • Apply a cleaning solution to a piece of paper towel. Wipe the screen of your laptop with it.
  • The consistency of the paper should at least be soft so as not to scratch the screen.
  • Wipe below the small open areas of your laptop. This will take out the dust and dirt.
  • Next, get a swab of cotton. Apply the cleaning solution.
  • Use the cotton swab to wipe the grooves of the keys. It is best that you go over the keys then go for the grooves.
  • If not in use, cover your laptop with a towel. This can help in preventing dust from forming on the surface.
Additional Tips
  • Do not spray the cleaning solution directly to your laptop.
  • Household cleaners must not be used in cleaning laptops.
  • A damp cloth will do as a primary cleaning tool.
  • Compressed air can be used to take of dirt embedded in the keyboard grooves.
  • Take your laptop to a repair center if there has been a build-up of dirt inside.

Watch Buying Guide

Finding a wristwatch that perfectly fits your lifestyle and taste is not an easy task. Watches are so complex that even the best-dressed and most stylish men can stumble when it comes to choosing the right watch. So what should you consider when buying the perfect watch?

What is your lifestyle?
The first thing to consider is your lifestyle. Would you rather devour burgers and fries instead of having a five-course Italian meal? Does your office dress code require high maintenance? If you answer yes to these questions, then a casual watch might be the perfect choice for you. If you’re more on functions, consider a more practical wristwatch that you can wear to work everyday.
But if you’re an executive and find yourself in boardrooms every hour of the day, or fancy formal dinners with clients, then go for a dress watch. If you’re the type who takes pleasure in showing off your wealth, the high-end types may just be the right choice for you.

What features do you need?
When buying a casual or dress watch, consider the features that you really want. Do you want the date or calendar to be displayed on your watch? Do you need a watch that glows in the dark? Do you need something that has an alarm feature? What do you need, an analog or a digital watch? If you’re a sportsperson, go for a comfortable watch that is shock-proof and resistant to sweat and water.

What type of watch do you want?
When you’ve cleared your mind about your lifestyle needs and the features you want, it’s time to figure out which type of watch is a great choice. Digital watches are considered very casual, whereas analog watches are the more classic and formal type of watch type They’re perfect for dates, business, and other formal events. The analog/digital types are designed for utility. You can wear them to work and during your everyday routine.
Sports wristwatches are sleek and durable. They are a great choice if you engage in sports activities a lot. If you’re a tech-savvy guy, a gadget watch is for you. Remember, however, that a gadget watch is a conversation piece that often only interests tech-savvy people. This type of watch is usually not the best bet for attracting women.

Does it fit and match?
Regardless of its type, your watch shouldn’t move up and down when moving your arms. Also, it shouldn’t leave a mark on your wrist. A silver watch goes best with blacks, silvers, grays, and blues. Ideally, it is best to wear it at night. A gold watch matches with beiges, tans, browns, and any earth tone. It is best worn during the day.
Keep in mind also that, no matter how cool they are, digital watches match best with work attire or casual clothes than formal wear or business suits.

Choosing a Budget - Friendly Laptop

Computers. We live in "the faster, the better" era and whether you are a businessman, artist, salesman, student, mother, or father, you need computers. In this fast-paced environment, laptops are ideal for people who are always on the go.
It is a fact that notebook prices have been spiralling down in the past few years. This is one of the major reasons there is an enormous demand for them. The problem now is how to find a budget-friendly laptop. When buying one that is within your limited budget, you should answer the following questions:

What is the best laptop for my money?
You have to shop around to find the best budget-friendly laptop. Regardless of whether you are using the laptop primarily for gaming or academic purposes, you need to compare the available laptops and look for the best deal. Laptops can feature the same hardware and design, but can differ significantly in price.
Many companies charge extra for their "stylish" computer, while many others charge additional fees for extra power. So what should you look for a budget-friendly laptop?

Is it durable?
Durability must be one of the first considerations when you are out to buy a notebook. Notebooks are prone to wear and tear as people use them anytime, anywhere.
So if you are buying one, make sure that it is strong and sturdy enough to withstand damages. You can always go for the more stylish one, but make sure that it is durable. Style and durability must go hand-in-hand, or else you will lose some of your hard-earned money on your find.

Is it fast enough?
Computer speed is another important consideration when buying a budget-friendly laptop. You will have a lot of problems if the speed is not fast enough.
You have to pay sufficient attention to the processor and hardware, the protagonist in giving you the speed. It can be very painstaking to find a fast budget notebook, but the fact is, they are out there. You just have to make some effort finding them. Do not settle for a laptop that functions at a glacial pace.

Is it portable?
Make sure that the budget laptop you buy is portable. Check out its weight and size, ensuring that it is light and small enough to carry. Do not go for one that strains your arm or back as if you are carrying a sack of rice. Finding an ultraportable notebook gives you a good value for your money.
Laptops have become an essential part of our lives. However, finding the right one for you without straining your wallet is also important. So, take good care when buying a budget-friendly laptop.

How to Choose a Digital Camera Gift for Graduates

Graduating students deserve to be rewarded after putting in years of hard  work to finish their studies. Give them the gift of preserving their memories with a digital camera. In this digital age, it’s only fitting to give them one. Choosing the right digital camera, however, can be quite tricky. The first thing you should do when choosing a digital camera is to know what features the recipient will want. Here are some helpful tips:

Resolution
Resolution, or how many megapixels the camera has, is one of the most important factors when choosing a camera. MP doesn’t determine image quality; rather it determines print size quality. In other words, with more MP, you can enlarge the image without losing clarity. A 3MP camera will give you good prints up to 8 x 10, probably sufficient for grads. If you think the gift recipient will use the images mostly online, you can choose a camera with fewer MP.

Size
Size is another important consideration. A sleek and small camera is ideal for a new grad. If you want to see his or her new life as captured in the photo, make sure that the camera you’ll give is one that the recipient will carry conveniently. It’s much easier to slip the camera in a purse or pocket than to carry it around your neck or over your shoulder. If the recipient has a strong interest in photography, get a 35 mm/interchangeable lens camera. You’ll see, you’ll be a hero for this.

Ease of Use
As mentioned, you must know your recipient – what he or she wants – when buying a gift. If the recipient is simply a point-and-shoot type of person, then make sure to buy a camera with automatic settings and one that will make all decisions on its own. However, if the grad is a techno geek and is into fiddling things, then make sure that you get a camera that will allow him or her to adjust settings manually.

Options
Also make sure that the camera has optical zoom lens, removable memory card, option to use rechargeable batteries, and a built-in flash that has a red-eye reduction feature. The camera should also have a glass lens as opposed to a plastic lens, an LCD screen, and an ISO range of at least 400 (you need more if the recipient is into shooting in dim light).

Price
For many people, price is the major factor when buying gifts, especially gadgets. The price of a 3MP camera can range from a few hundred dollars to thousands of dollars for professional models. Always compare prices and camera features and always aim for the best deals. Go online and visit reputable reputable camera stores, watch inserts in the broadsheet, and visit some electronic and camera stores.

Choosing a Computer for a College Bound Student

Most often, students bound for college look for laptops that they think is best for them. To them it is a matter of preference. But to some, it is more on what works best.
College students, along with their parents, are always in the search for laptops that will be more capable of taking up all the load they get while on classes. In other words, aside from possessing heavy duty qualities, it has high-performance as well.

Laptops or desktops in accordance to preference
In most cases, college students tend to have their own mindset on their own preference when it comes to their favorite brand of laptop or desktop PC. Thus, it is known that students who think they love HP laptops, think it is the best.
Application-wise, they always like such gizmos that can put on several programs at a time. So they tend to go for high-end brands like Dell. However, if they are going to choose between a laptop and a notebook, it will be wiser for them to go for the laptop PC. That is because for only $500, they can have their own laptop.

Going for Mac laptops
Usually, portability becomes an issue as well for college students. That is why they tend to go for Mac Books. Not only do they think it looks cool, but they also believe in its efficiency.
If you are eager to shell out more than $1000, you can get your own MacBook. With its noteworthy processor, the Intel Duo, it allows them to save more energy or electricity and it has high-performance. That’s why they think it is the perfect choice for them.
However, for those who think that portability is not much of a concern, then they can go for the MacBook Pro. Though it is bigger, it is even more powerful than its counterpart, the MacBook. That is, if you are going for efficiency.
They may even opt for a MacBook Air. Lightest among all the Mac laptops out there, they may even consider it as the coolest. Though it may not be built for the typical college student, it is as efficient as the other laptops out there.
It is true, there are several brands of laptops to choose from. So no matter how confusing it may be, you have to know what is best for you. Yet, as a note for the wise, whatever laptop you choose for college, the best things to consider are two things: portability and efficiency. That is because if a laptop is to be considered efficient, it has to put its being portable into good use.
